Jason Miller, a senior adviser to former U.S. President Donald Trump, said Trump is happier now after he stopped using Twitter or other social media.
“The president has said that he feels happier now than he has in a while.” Miller told the British newspaper The Sunday Times.
Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms permanently halted Trump’s account after the Capitol riots last month. Critics have condemned the big tech giants for their censorship of Trump and say it will have a chilling effect on free speech.
Miller told The Sunday Times that Trump said it was actually good to stay off social media and out of the way of hate speech. “The First Lady (Melania) agrees with that. She said she likes it. He (Trump) is much happier and having a much happier Time.”
Since being banned from using social media, Trump has made few public statements since leaving office. The former president and his Family have said they plan to get involved in politics in some way, and Trump recently met with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Miller said Trump is no longer under the pressure of being president of the United States.
Miller said that after he left, it was “the first time in years that I’ve seen a president really relax”.
He also said that only 45 other people in U.S. history have experienced what it’s like to carry the world on their shoulders, and now for the first time in four years, the president knows that it’s not all on him anymore.
Miller said of Trump’s last day in office on Jan. 20 that some White House staffers were “very sad to see the day come, but there’s a sense of pride because it’s been one of the most successful first terms in U.S. presidential history.
But Trump did not disappear from social media permanently. In a Feb. 6 interview with “SiriusXM 125” on the Breitbart News radio channel, Miller revealed that people will see Trump choose a way to reappear on social media.
“Whether it’s joining an existing platform or creating his new platform, there are a lot of different options, and they’ve had a lot of different meetings on that.” Miller said.
Existing potential alternative social media platforms that Trump could join include Parler and Gab. If Trump seeks to create his own platform, it would be a massive undertaking that would require significant investment and technical infrastructure. But Breitbart News said the plan could eventually succeed, given Trump’s popularity and the push from his supporters. 75 million Americans voted for Trump in 2020, making him the most voted-for sitting president in U.S. history.
