Li Qiaochu, the girlfriend of Chinese jurist and constitutional scholar Xu Zhiyong, was recently detained again by the authorities on suspicion of “subversion of state power. The wife of human rights lawyer Ding Jiaxi, who is involved in the same case as Xu Zhiyong, Luo Shengchun, said she does not know where Li Qiaochu has been sent, and that the reason for her arrest is suspected to be related to her publicizing the torture and starvation of Xu Zhiyong in retaliation.

According to Apple Daily, Ding Jiaxi’s wife, Luo Shengchun, said she called a public security officer in charge of Li Qiaochu’s case to ask if she was being sent to a detention center in Linshu County, Linyi City, Shandong Province, but the other party responded no, but did not tell her where the actual location was. The company’s main goal is to provide a safe and secure environment for the public.

She said that Li Qiaochu was suddenly accused of “subversion of state power” and sent to Shandong, probably because since last month Xu Zhiyong finally got to see his lawyer, Li Qiaochu publicized on the Internet that Xu was tortured and starved and was retaliated. “The authorities arrested Li Qiaochu to force Xu Zhiyong to confess his guilt. Luo Shengchun said he was in the United States, otherwise he might have been arrested as well as Chiaochu.

The government also said that it had not heard from Li Qiaochu after four and a half hours, and that he had been detained by police in Linyi, Shandong province, and that his Parents had been taken to Yuqiao police station. They only saw that the charge was “subversion of state power,” but after they refused to sign, the public security officials then withdrew the detention notice.

Xu Zhiyong and Ding Jiaxi were arrested in December 2019 after attending a “Xiamen gathering” to discuss the future of China and current affairs. He was arrested on December 26, 2019, and Xu Zhiyong was arrested on February 15, 2020, after Ding Jiaxi and others went on the run and published a “Letter of Dissuasion” on the Internet, which severely criticized CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping for his inability to handle the crisis, including the CCP virus Epidemic and Hong Kong‘s anti-China protests. They were secretly transferred to Linshu County Detention Center after being placed under residential surveillance, and their attorneys were denied access to them and were denied bail.

Li Qiaochu was taken away by Beijing police on February 16, the day after Xu Zhiyong’s arrest, and it was only two months later that authorities confirmed that she had been placed under “residential surveillance” and that she had been released on bail to return Home last June.

On January 21, Xu Zhiyong and Ding Jiaxi were finally able to meet with their lawyers by video at the Linshu County Detention Center in Linyi City, Shandong Province. Xu’s lawyer said Xu and Ding were placed under residential surveillance before they were formally arrested in June of last year. Xu Zhiyong said he was deprived of sleep for 10 days during that period, sleeping only four hours a day for the first five days and two hours a day for the last five days; Ding Jiaxi also said he was tortured during that period.

The lawyer also said that the conditions at the Linshu County Detention Center were poor, and that each person was provided with only one steamed bun per meal, and had to buy other Food on his own. Li Qiaochu filed a lawsuit with the Linshu County Prosecutor’s Office because the price of goods in the detention center was three times the market price.
