In this day and age, conspiracy theories are rife, and investigative journalists are becoming increasingly rare. But, as our slogan goes, sometimes “the truth is right in front of us, and we’re blind to it.
Trump‘s claim that there was massive fraud in 2020 and that the election was stolen, although even his appointed attorney general won’t admit it, was blatantly stated in a recent Time magazine article.
In a 6,500-word article, “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election,” published Feb. 4, author Molly Bowers writes In the 6,500-word article, “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election,” author Molly Ball lays out the intricate details of how it all came to pass, and the behind-the-scenes conspiracy to steal the election, using the Chinese Communist virus Epidemic, mail-in ballots and big corporations to team up to oust President Trump. The article even uses the term “cabal” (conspiracy group), which is considered a common conspiracy theory.
Time magazine is not a right-wing media outlet, so the article goes to great lengths to excuse the “shadow” campaign and paint the conspiracy in a righteous light, claiming that the coordinated efforts of many activists and industry “power players” These groups influence states to “change the way we do business. These groups influence states to “change voting systems and laws” and encourage technology companies to take steps to prevent disinformation.
According to the article, “It was not a Trump victory that the shadow campaigners tried so hard to prevent. Instead, it was a disastrous election with no visible results at all. ……”
But the article acknowledges that “most of this [shadow campaigning] is happening on the left.”
The Times alleges that campaigners “successfully pressured social media companies to take a tougher stance on disinformation and to use data-driven tactics to combat viral smears.”
Powell also quoted Norm Eisen, Obama’s chief White House ethics lawyer who served as Democratic counsel to the House Judiciary Committee in the first effort to impeach Trump.
Powell wrote that “players” like Eisen now “want the secret history of the 2020 election to be told, even though it sounds like a paranoid fever dream – a well-funded cabal ( Cabal), across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, guide media coverage and control the flow of information.”
Powell identified Mike Podhorzer, political director of the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor and Industrial Labor), as the “architect” of the conspiracy.
Changing American Elections Forever
According to the article, “The first task is to overhaul America’s crumbling electoral infrastructure.”
It acknowledges that various foundations have provided tens of millions of dollars to election administration. The Chan Zuckerberg program has donated $300 million.
Using George Floyd
The death of George Floyd was also exploited for political purposes, according to the article.
The racial justice uprising sparked by George Floyd’s murder in May was not a political movement. The organizers who helped lead the uprising wanted to use the momentum of the protest for electoral purposes and not allow it to be exploited by politicians. Many of these organizers are part of the Podhoretzer network, from activists working with the Democracy Defense Coalition in battleground states to activists in the Movement for Black Lives (MBL). “They claim that the shadow campaign should be a part of the Movement for Black Lives.
They claim that shadow campaigns should focus on the vote, but not let them get close to the levers of power, i.e., politicians.
Big Corporations
Then, big corporations in the United States stepped in.
While the AFL-CIO and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce pretend to be antagonistic, in reality much of this antagonism is staged. The Times article confirms this.
Neil Bradley, the Chamber’s executive vice president and chief policy officer…wanted to send a broader, more cross-party message. He reached out to Podhoretzer through a middleman both men declined to name. Agreeing that their unlikely coalition would be strong, they began discussing a joint statement pledging their organizations’ shared commitment to fair and peaceful elections.
With that, the stage was set for the conspiracy to be carried out.
In effect, big business, big activist groups, big unions and big media will work together to get Trump out of office and get the media and social media to block election-stealing coverage.
And the article goes on to claim that these activists are not trying to stop Trump from winning, but to make sure the election is fair, which is really a no-brainer here.
Powell revealed a Zoom call from the shadow campaign at 11 p.m. on election night, when President Trump was in the lead and Podhoretzer stepped in to calm his colleagues down.
“Podhoretzer showed everyone the numbers and told everyone that victory was at hand.”
He told Time magazine the truth: “I don’t think the Trump campaign has a back-up plan.”
The article says grassroots conservative activists came close to derailing the shadow campaign plan, especially in Michigan, where supervisors were locked out of the counting room with placards in the windows to prevent them from seeing inside.
Why put the conspiracy out in the open? To take credit for it
The reason for the appearance of this article is simple, as the article reads
When I covered this article in November and December, I heard different accounts about who should get credit for foiling the Trump plan.
Liberals argued that the role of bottom-up people power, especially from people of color and local grassroots activists, should not be ignored.
Others highlight the heroism of Republican officials such as Van Langevelde (policy advisor and deputy counsel for the Michigan House Republican Policy Office) and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R), who stood up to Trump at considerable cost. The truth is that neither could have succeeded without the other.
In other words, the official behind-the-scenes players are going to take credit, so they’re giving the election-stealing scheme the full benefit of the doubt.
