Fox News announced today that it has taken host Lou Dobbs off the air. Lou Dobbs is one of the staunchest Trump supporters in American television, and Trump immediately issued a statement in support of the suspension of his show.
The news comes just a day after election technology company Smartmatic filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News and three of its hosts, seeking $2.7 billion ($76.18 billion) for falsely accusing the company of involvement in fraud in last November’s presidential election.
A Fox spokesman told AFP: “As we said last October, Fox News Media regularly considers programming adjustments and has plans to launch appropriate new state programming after the election, including Fox Business.”
A spokesman said the discontinuation of Lou Dobbs Tonight “is part of the restructuring plan” and that a new 5 p.m. program will be announced in the near future.
Trump issued a statement saying, “Lou Dobbs has always been great. Nobody loves America more than Lou Dobbs. He has a large and loyal following and will be watched closely.”
Lou Dobbs’ show has the highest viewership demographic on Fox-related programming, with an average of more than 300,000 people tuning in to his show each night.
Lou Dobbs, 75, has been a host for 40 years, including 10 years on “Lou Dobbs Tonight.
