Biden Nominee Rejects Pledge to Sanction huawei, Cruz: Biden Is Embracing Communist China
Gina Raimondo, the Biden Administration‘s Commerce Secretary nominee
Biden’s Commerce Secretary nominee Gina Raimondo has again refused to commit to continuing sanctions against Huawei, and his appointment process has been delayed by opposition from Republican Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and others. Cruz has repeatedly said that the Biden administration is “embracing the Chinese Communist Party.
On Feb. 3, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation voted 21-3 to approve Raimondo’s nomination so that she could proceed to a final Senate confirmation vote by the full chamber. The three votes against included Rep. Cruz.
During the appointment hearing, Republican lawmakers again urged Raimondo to make a clear statement on whether she continues to keep Chinese companies such as Huawei on the list of entities subject to restricted transactions, Bloomberg reported.
In response, Raimondo replied, “I currently have no reason to believe that the entities on the list should not remain on the list. If (the nomination) is confirmed, I look forward to briefings on these and other entities of concern.”
Raimondo’s response still avoided how he would handle Huawei once in office.
Rep. Cruz put a hold on Raimondo’s nomination process after Wednesday’s vote, causing her Senate vote to be delayed by one day. On Thursday, Cruz himself tweeted in response to the above message that he would lift the hold when the Biden administration promised to keep Huawei, the massive Chinese Communist spy agency, on the list of entities.
Old Communist friend Bloomberg returns to UN as special envoy for climate action
Former U.S. presidential contender Michael Bloomberg is returning to the United Nations as a special envoy for climate action. U.N. Secretary-General Guterres said Friday (Feb. 5) that Bloomberg will work to “mobilize stronger, more ambitious climate action ahead of the crucial Glasgow Climate Conference – COP 26 – in November 2021.”
Voice of America reports that a statement announcing Bloomberg’s appointment said, “This envoy will engage with government officials, the private sector and civil society to finalize and implement plans, particularly in high-emitting countries, industries and sectors, to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy.”
Apollo.com commentator Wang Duyan said Bloomberg, who owns Bloomberg, is a political opponent of Trump and an old friend of the Chinese Communist Party.
U.S. Senate approves amendment to ban bailout checks to illegal immigrants
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) speaks to reporters in front of the Capitol on Feb. 4, 2021.
The U.S. Senate on Thursday night approved a Republican amendment to block illegal immigrants from receiving bailout checks. It was part of a marathon “vote-a-rama” in the Senate.
The Senate passed the amendment by a vote of 58 to 42. Eight Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the amendment.
The amendment, sponsored by Republican Senators Todd Young and Tom Cotton, prohibits any direct relief payments to immigrants who are in the United States illegally.
Economic Impact Payment is for Americans struggling to survive during the coronavirus pandemic, not for those who are in our country illegally,” Young said. Our amendment will ensure that people who violate our immigration laws will not receive taxpayer-funded relief.”
To date, the federal government has passed two rounds of bailout checks, last spring and in December.
Neither round of checks included illegal immigrants. Biden has asked for another round of bailout checks to be passed, giving $1,400 each to certain Americans, but has not asked to include illegal immigrants.
Senate Surprise Passes After 15 Hours of Lengthy Debate on Proposed Relief Act
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
The Senate “vote-a-rama” (budget discussion with amendments), which began at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, came to a close at 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, after a lengthy 15-hour debate. The Senate’s budget resolution for the CCP virus (coronavirus) finally passed with a shocking 51-50 vote after Vice President He Jinli cast the deciding vote.
Although the budget is not yet a final bill, it paves the way for the Senate to develop a final bill under budget reconciliation rules and allows Democrats to bypass Republican lawmakers’ obstructionism and to introduce a final relief bill simply by keeping the Democratic caucus united.
Senate Republicans had planned to use the Senate process to force Democrats to accept more of the amendments they offered on the budget resolution. But the debate mostly fell short of what Republicans had expected, with Democrats refusing to compromise on many of the issues in the advance bill. Although a small number of Republican amendments were also passed, the vast majority of the bill followed the Democratic Party’s line.
Republican amendments included support for the Trump Administration‘s policy of keeping refugees in Mexico pending trial; opposition to the Biden administration’s executive order blocking construction of the Keystone XL U.S.-Canada pipeline; opposition to Biden’s ban on fracking mining laws; opposition to raising the federal minimum wage during a pandemic; and more.
The final Democratic amendments offered by Schumer repealed many of the amendments offered by Republicans, and bipartisan resolutions were ultimately passed on fracking, the Keystone XL pipeline, and opposition to stimulus checks on illegal immigration.
Most of the amendments proposed by the Republicans failed to pass, including.
- losing 50-51 and failing to keep the border wall construction project.
- losing 50-51 and failing to support the free exercise of religion
- losing 50-51 against infilling the Supreme Court.
- losing 50-51, opposing the imposition of stimulus checks on the condemned
- lost 50-51 against the Biden administration’s restrictions on oil and gas leasing on federal lands
- lost 50-51 against a federal carbon tax.
Republican lawmakers criticize one-party procedural amendment vote as non-binding
Texas Rep. Michael Burgess (R) said it was “disappointing” that Democrats are using the “partisan process” to pass a bailout bill after Biden’s call for unity at his inauguration last month.
Burgess said the budget reconciliation resolution “would dramatically increase the deficit and seek to implement one-party policies.”
The votes on these amendments are not binding, and the House can ignore them when drafting the final bill.
U.S. Banks Secretly Hand Over Customer Data to FBI to Help Search for ‘Extremists’
On Feb. 4, Fox News host Tucker Carlson revealed on his show that Bank of America has been actively involved in the search for “extremists” by sharing customer information with the FBI without the customer’s knowledge or consent.
The Biden administration and law enforcement have said they want to go after domestic “extremists,” but have not provided a clear definition of “extremists. Carlson asked, “What exactly are they doing?” “How are they hunting these extremists that they keep telling us about, but don’t define?”
Carlson said Bank of America, the nation’s second-largest bank with more than 60 million customers, has effectively become an intelligence agency that is actively and secretly working with the government to hunt down “extremists”; the information is “so extensive” that the bank has identified The 211 customers who met all the data requirements and whose transaction data the bank passed on to the FBI without notifying them.
Carlson then said his team asked Bank of America about the incident, and Bank of America did not deny it and confirmed that it had indeed happened. Carlson read Bank of America’s statement, which asserted that they had a duty under federal law to cooperate fully with law enforcement’s investigation, as required by law. Carlson concluded that according to Bank of America, someone who bought a muffin in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5 could be considered a potential domestic “extremist.
