Kyi Toe, the press liaison for Myanmar’s National League for Democracy (NLD), to which Senior State Counselor Ung San Suu Kyi belongs, said on May 5 that Ung San Suu Kyi is currently under house arrest and in good health after being arrested by the military who staged the coup on January 1.
In a post on his official Facebook account, Zito said, “We have learned that Senior Minister of State Onsan Suu Kyi is in good health (in Nebido).”
Zito told AFP, “As far as I know, she is under house arrest.”
Reuters reported that the National League for Democracy today expressed support for a civil disobedience campaign in the country, noting that it would be useful for those arrested or dismissed for opposing this week’s coup.
In a statement on its official Facebook page, the NLD denounced the coup and the arrest of Onsan Suu Kyi as “unacceptable” and said it had a responsibility to assist those who were disadvantaged by their opposition to the military coup.
