The Biden administration supports abortion, not only by funding abortions in the United States, but also by providing funding for abortions abroad. Planned Parenthood is “ecstatic” about Biden’s abortion plan, and Planned Parenthood plans to pursue bold agenda items under the Biden Administration.
In an interview with Business Insider, Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion rights advocacy group for women in the United States, said, “I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do that. Insider, “We should pursue bold agenda items in the name of Build Back Better,” Biden’s campaign slogan.
Last week, Biden enacted a policy allowing taxpayer funds to fund abortions abroad. Days before that, Biden also commemorated the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, an important case on women’s right to abortion and the right to privacy.
“Planned Parenthood Federation wants Roe v. Wade codified in law. Currently, conservatives hold a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court, and if Roe v. Wade is overruled, abortion could become illegal in some states.
Johnson also expressed hope that the Biden administration would prioritize the availability of abortion drugs during the Communist virus pandemic and no longer restrict abortion pills. Pro-abortion advocates have called for continued and increased access to abortion.
Johnson called on Biden to focus on modernizing programs and increasing funding for Title X, the federal Family birth control program. Last week, Biden ordered the Department of health and Human Services (HHS) to review the Title X program’s protocols.
Trump‘s “Protect Life Rule” prohibits Title X programs from using funds for organizations that perform or promote abortions, requiring organizations that perform or recommend abortions to be separate from organizations that receive Title X federal funds. X federal funds and organizations that receive Title X funds are separate and cannot be in the same building.
In June 2019, HHS alerted clinics to the Trump Administration‘s ban, and Planned Parenthood Federation chose to refuse to comply with the decision, withdrawing from the Title X program in August 2019, resulting in a loss of approximately $60 million annually. The annual loss is approximately $60 million.
Biden HHS Secretary nominee Xavier Becerra does not have a firm timeline for Senate confirmation, and Johnson told Business Insider that she plans to meet with Becerra after he is sworn in.
Becerra has a reputation for being a strong pro-abortion advocate. He has defended a California law that requires pro-life pregnancy centers to post signs telling patients how to access state-funded abortions, Business Insider reported. The Supreme Court struck down the law in 2018 because it violated free speech.
