Macron: China’s new crown vaccine is not transparent at this stage

French President Emmanuel Macron criticized the opaqueness of China’s new crown vaccine on April 4; saying it has the potential risk of triggering a variant strain of the virus. Macron said: I don’t have any information about the Chinese vaccine, I don’t comment on it, but it is a fact. He called for a holistic approach to effectively increase the speed of vaccination.

The Manaus and Amazon variants of the virus already dominate the northern region of Brazil. French President Emmanuel Macron told the Atlantic Council think tank: This means that in the medium and long term, it is almost certain that the vaccine in China at this stage is not only not fit for purpose; it also leads to new mutated viruses. It means that in the medium and long term, it is almost certain that when this vaccine does not work, it will definitely not solve the current situation in countries that have adopted the Chinese vaccine.

Brazil is a good example, according to the French president. In the Manaus region, there are infected patients; there are people who have received the vaccine; and there are people who have developed new illnesses.

French President Macron also said in response to the Chinese vaccine: To be on the safe side, a truly effective vaccine is needed if the vaccine is to be the magic bullet to overcome the Epidemic. And for the different variants of the new coronavirus, there is a greater need for transparency of information. The French president also said: I think that’s what (…) WHO has a very important role to play. There is a “greater need for the WHO to assess” the efficacy and potential virulence of the initial new coronavirus and its variants.

The French president said: “I therefore call for a “globally coordinated approach”; “the vaccination of the new crown under the control of the best researchers in the world, where the science is transparent; it should also be accurate”.

This is not the case with the Chinese vaccine at this stage,” said French President Macron. For me, therefore, the quest for speed may harm the efficiency in the medium term. AFP said that China has recently deployed “vaccine diplomacy” in the Balkans, the Gulf and some African countries. Macron has felt the “efficiency” of China’s vaccine diplomacy in recent months.

Macron added: “We don’t know at all the percentage of Chinese exports, but diplomatically it is successful”.

Macron concluded by saying that this may show that they are more effective than the multilateral approach we took a few months ago. But I think that if we adopt a globally coordinated strategy, then in the long run we can be more efficient”.
