A few days ago, the topic “WHO does not recommend vaccination with Modena vaccine” hit the Weibo hot search list. However, some netizens in mainland China checked the original headline on the WHO website and found that it was a “secondary creation” that was taken out of context and “catered to xenophobic sentiments”.
On Wednesday (Jan. 27), media outlets such as GlobeNewswire, Observer and Phoenix Technology, as well as some local government official accounts, posted blog posts using the hashtag “WHO does not recommend vaccination against Modena vaccine”, and the topic was once ranked fourth on Weibo’s hot search list, sparking widespread debate.
However, some people soon found the original article published on the WHO Chinese website on the 26th, titled “WHO: Modena vaccine should be observed for at least 15 minutes after vaccination and is not recommended for people under 18 years old and pregnant women.
The company’s main goal is to provide the best possible solution to the problem. “The so-called secondary creation, play on demand.”
Some netizens believe that the media is doing this to discredit foreign vaccines.
“I’m afraid that in the end, after discrediting all the foreign vaccines, my own vaccine is not effective enough, production is not fast enough, others are done with it, but my own side is not done, and there is no way to import it…”
“Disinformation a mouth, disinformation run broken legs. Really speechless, such obviously misleading news will only make the general public distrust vaccines, including domestic ones.”

Some people also complained about the domestic vaccination measures saying, “I would say that no one might believe that we have already had five universal nucleic acid tests in less than a month on our side, and the frequency is now once a day. The virus is one year old, the fight against the Epidemic still depends on the sticker seal, if I say do not bb how the United States vaccine, the United States (vaccine) European Union Canada are grabbing, the country in any case can not play on, the country if the vaccine can be given on it, this daily sticker seal plus nucleic acid testing to people whole crazy.”
Others lamented, “The future of Jane (body) in the (text) world does not need walls. Everyone does not need to go out at all. The world outside clashes too much with the world you’ve already built, and not everyone has the courage to fully question the world they’ve already built.”
“They’ll just cheat, sooner or later there will be a backlash.”
As the original WHO article was identified, Phoenix Technology changed the text tag to “WHO does not recommend pregnant women to be vaccinated with Modena New Crown vaccine,” while Observer and Globe removed the post, but the erroneous topic remained the same on the hot search list at the Time.

In fact, this is not the first time the Chinese Communist media has discredited foreign vaccines. According to a January 25 report by RFI, the Chinese Communist Party has failed in its attempts to be the leader in the vaccine race and has turned on its propaganda machine to spread targeted fake news and attack its rivals.
For example, Liu Xin, a journalist and anchor for the Chinese Communist Party’s international television station, tweeted on January 16 that German media reported that 10 people had died in Germany days after being injected with the BionTech/Pfizer vaccine. But the German media Der Spiegel and Focus then pointed out that the deaths were not linked to the vaccine after investigation; the Chinese side wanted to show that Chinese vaccines shine while Western vaccines do not.
In addition, a few days ago, there were serious Food cuts in Tonghua, Jilin due to severe household closures. Local netizens urgently called for outside attention, only to find Weibo trying to control the traffic and suppress the heat. The modus operandi is very different compared to pushing fake vaccine news.
