Biden will nominate a new secretary of commerce, the nominee is the current governor of Rhode Island, a former venture capitalist Gina Marie Raimondo (Gina Marie Raimondo). Raimondo recently explained to the Senate Commerce Committee, the plan will actively combat China’s trade injustice, and promised to do its best to protect the U.S. fishing industry, as well as enhance the U.S. artificial intelligence, advanced communications and other scientific and technological research.
Raimondo said that in this era of crisis, the Commerce Department must be a partner to businesses and workers, helping them to innovate and grow. Although the power of the Commerce Department has been used to crack down on Chinese technology companies as early as under former President Trump, there are still many American people who believe that Chinese-owned companies pose a threat to national security.
However, earlier it was rumored that Raimondo refused to include Chinese companies as one of the national security issues, such as huawei. Only promised to use the power of the Department of Commerce to protect the American people’s cyber security from Chinese Communist interference. In response, Republican Senator Ted Cruz criticized: “There are rumors in Washington that the Biden Administration is considering a lenient policy toward the CCP and removing those companies from the list of entities” and “I certainly hope that doesn’t happen, because I think that would be a serious violation of the national security interests of the United States.
