Ever since last year’s hype in Beijing about “positive cases of imported salmon,” imported goods have been the target of the Chinese Communist authorities’ efforts to blame the source of the outbreak. Recently, the mainland authorities have increased their efforts to publicize the detection of the virus in imported goods, but Shanghai expert Zhang Wenhong pointed out that so far, there has never been a case of infection due to the purchase of imported goods.
Over the past few days, the Epidemic situation on the mainland has been serious, and the authorities have been releasing news about the detection of the Chinese communist virus (also known as the new coronavirus, COVID-19) in imported goods. One of the latest cases was on January 24, when Tianjin notified that it had detected positive nucleic acid on the outer packaging of a batch of beer imported from the United States. Two days ago, Suzhou found a positive nucleic acid test on the outer packaging of a frozen pork neck bone imported by a Food company; on the 21st, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province found a positive nucleic acid test on the surface of an imported carrion.
Earlier, China also announced that Norwegian salmon, German pig’s feet, Ecuadorian Er South American white shrimp, Argentina frozen pork, and even imported auto parts packaging were tested for Wuhan pneumonia virus.
Shanghai authorities also issued a “cold chain food safety guide” on the 19th, fervently guiding the public to pay attention to the purchase and handling matters.
However, how many people have been infected with Wuhan pneumonia because of imported goods? The answer from Zhang Wenhong, director of the Infection Department at Huashan Hospital of Fudan University, is zero.
Zhang Wenhong said on the 23rd of CCTV’s “News Investigation” program on the issue of “cold chain under the epidemic” that it is normal to have positive surface packaging, foreign epidemics are very powerful, but “so far, China has consumed countless Seafood, buy countless things, I just look at the probability of being infected because of buying something that came in from abroad, so far not a single case has happened.” “When the probability is close to being lower than even an air crash, you decide for yourself.”
Zhang Wenhong’s statement sparked hot debate among netizens, with some saying, “Dr. Zhang is right, we can’t stop going out because a car accident might happen on the road, and we can’t have the possibility of an earthquake house falling down, so we don’t dare to go Home.”
Other netizens complained, “lower than an air crash! But no matter where people and things are positive, let the people freeze for hours in winter to do nucleic acid repeatedly, freeze cold and go to the hospital to do nucleic acid and then look at the cold, the unit did not test to let go to work, look at the cold did not have a day to look at the end, which is not all have been infected may be?”
Also according to the Wall Street Journal, the World health Organization is also embroiled in a debate between China and the West over whether the imported cold chain spreads the Wuhan pneumonia virus. A draft report previously sent to the Wall Street Journal by the WHO said that the Wuhan pneumonia virus could be spread through the cold chain and reimported into countries where the outbreak is under control.
The Free Times said the WHO’s argument in this draft drew questions from countries such as the United States, the European Union and many experts outside of China, disputing Beijing’s assessment of the evidence. In the midst of the dissent, WHO officials changed their tune and said the draft had not been approved for publication and had been “sent in error” and promptly withdrew the report.
