WhatsApp, a messaging App, has struggled to regain user confidence and jumped ship, even after delaying the effective date of its new privacy policy.
WhatsApp has fallen sharply in the UK’s most popular apps ranking, from 8th to 23rd, while rival Signal has become the most popular app from its previous ranking outside the 1,000th.
The UK newspaper “The Guardian” reported on Sunday (24) that data from the Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs showed that Signal’s global users increased by 7.5 million in the first three weeks, while Telegram increased by 25 million. According to Amir Ghodrati, director of market insights at market analysis firm App Annie, switching between messaging apps and social networks is not uncommon, and the demand for encrypted messaging and apps has been increasing over the past few years.
WhatsApp responded that the new privacy terms are intended to introduce new business communications features and provide greater transparency.
According to a Jan. 12 report by Ezone, WhatsApp earlier announced changes to its privacy policy and sent out notices to users asking them to agree to WhatsApp sharing user information with Facebook, causing many users to resent it and consider switching to other communication software. In addition to Turkey, the UK, which is not affected by the terms and conditions, also saw a wave of “switching”, while the number of WhatsApp downloads fell, Signal also reached the top of the download list.
Although WhatsApp announced that the EU and the UK would not be affected by the privacy policy update, many Europeans still responded to the network’s call to stop using WhatsApp.
In the UK, millions of users have abandoned Whatsapp WhatsApp. from January 1 to 7, the number of downloads fell, with weekly downloads dropping by about 13%. In contrast, Signal topped the download charts, and Telegram climbed to 13th place.
