Japanese media: Germany intends to send frigates to visit Japan, South Korea and Australia this summer does not rule out sailing the South China Sea

China is expanding its power in the Indo-Pacific region, posing a threat to international order and interests. The Nikkei Asian Reviews (Nikkei Asian Reviews) 25 quoted German officials as saying that Germany is expected to send a frigate to visit Japan, South Korea, Australia and other Indo-Pacific countries in the summer, and even does not rule out sailing into the South China Sea to show a tough attitude toward China.

According to the report, the German Defense Ministry’s parliamentary state secretary Thomas Silberhorn said Germany hopes to assign a naval frigate to the Indo-Pacific region this summer at the earliest, although the details have not been drawn up, but is considering a visit to Japan, ” We want to deepen our relationship with our partners in the democratic camp.” Although Silberhorn stressed that the move “is not directed at any country,” it is clear that the Berlin authorities are concerned about China’s expansionist policies.

It is worth noting that other German government sources point out that, in addition to Japan, German frigates will also visit South Korea, Australia and other countries, and go to French possessions in the Pacific to replenish supplies and participate in joint exercises, and even have plans to sail the South China Sea. German ruling party “Christian Democratic Union” (CDU) sources further said that Australia and Japan have asked Germany to send troops, “we will comply with their requests and show our solidarity with our democratic partners”.

As the security of East Asia is involved in the international order, the German government adopted the “Indo-Pacific policy guidelines” for the first Time in September last year, will take a tougher approach to China, and is currently working on the implementation details.

The newspaper pointed out that although European countries generally depend on China for trade and investment, they have begun to draw a clear line at the political level and separate political and economic issues in their policies toward China.

In addition, a British navy spokesman also revealed that the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth is also expected to go to the Pacific Ocean between April and June; France, which is also wary of China’s expansion, has 8,000 troops in its Pacific possessions. France, also wary of Chinese expansion, has 8,000 troops in the Pacific island of Réunion.
