According to the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China, on January 24, another 15 Chinese military aircraft broke into Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone (ADIZ), including two Su-30 fighter jets, four J-16 fighter jets, six J-10 fighter jets, two transport-8 anti-submarine aircraft, and one transport-8 reconnaissance aircraft, setting a record for the scale of Chinese military aircraft circling Taiwan.
This is the second Time that a large number of Chinese military planes have been sent into Taiwan’s airspace after 13 of them broke into Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone on the 23rd. It is also the second consecutive record-breaking day that the Chinese Communist Party has sent a large number of military planes around Taiwan to provoke after U.S. President Joe Biden took office on Jan. 20.
According to the briefing, Taiwan responded with air patrol forces, radio dispatches, and anti-aircraft missiles to track and monitor the situation.
According to Lin Yingyou, an assistant professor at the Institute of Strategic and International Affairs at National Chung Cheng University in Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party’s move is intended to convey to the United States that “no matter if Democrats or Republicans, or if Trump or Biden are elected, there will be no change in the Communist Party’s policy toward Taiwan”.
Retired Air Force Deputy Commander Zhang Yanting also analyzed that the Chinese Communist Party is clearly trying to test Biden and observe the bottom line of the new U.S. administration’s policy toward the Chinese Communist Party.
According to Zhang Yanting, the bomber (Boeing 6K) is a slow-speed aircraft, but it can perform bombing and has a range of up to 5,000 kilometers with refueling planes, making it an offensive aircraft, showing that the Communist Air Force has changed from a defensive air force to an offensive air force, and from a tactical air force to a strategic air force. Therefore, the two days of activities of the Communist forces in the southwestern waters “is obviously a sword pointing at the United States and force Taiwan”.
The Ministry of Defense think tank, the National Defense Security Research Institute scholar Su Ziyun also said that the 24th fleet observation, the Russian-made Su-30 fighter aircraft, the Communist Party of China’s own J-16 fighter aircraft are ship-to-ship combat aircraft, J-10 play the role of escort, Su-30 can carry Kh-31 anti-ship missiles, J-16 can carry the Eagle-62 long-range anti-ship missiles, and technical reconnaissance aircraft is responsible for intercepting the U.S. fleet electronic parameters, anti-submarine aircraft The J-16 can carry the Hawk-62 long-range anti-ship missiles. According to the Chinese military aircraft type study, are anti-ship warfare demonstration, on the one hand to show the Chinese Communist Party “area denial” warfare, but also in response to the U.S. Roosevelt aircraft countermeasures, can be seen as a response to the U.S. Department of State request for the Chinese Communist Party to stop military intimidation of Taiwan statement draft.
Su Ziyun also said that although the Communist army currently has a large surface fleet and two ships, but Liaoning and Shandong ships are “escort” purposes, the overall combat power is insufficient, but also need to rely on land-based air power to have the opportunity to counteract the U.S. naval battle group.
Biden has repeatedly said before taking office that Russia is the current enemy of the United States, while the Chinese Communist Party is a “competitor” of the United States, in contrast to the Trump Administration‘s hard-line policy of making the Chinese Communist Party the biggest enemy of the United States. Although State Department spokesman Ned Price (Ned Price) said in a statement on the 23rd, the United States is very concerned about the Chinese Communist Party’s continued attempts to intimidate neighboring countries such as Taiwan. But what substantive response the Biden Administration will make to the Chinese Communist Party has become the focus of attention, and will be an important basis for countries to verify the Biden administration’s foreign policy toward the Chinese Communist Party.
