3 U.S. states allocate vaccines, but put smokers in a very high ranking

The U.S. has begun distributing the new crown vaccine, but the ranking of the vaccine is controversial, as three states have prioritized smokers for vaccination.

The Forsyth News reports that the Pennsylvania Department of health‘s Phase I vaccine distribution plan includes groups aged 16 to 64 with high-risk medical conditions as well as smokers, with smokers ranked even higher than educators, field emergency workers and postal workers, a health department spokesperson said, adding that the ranking was based on the CDC’s recommendations, but residents were shocked.

In addition to Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Mississippi also put smokers in the priority ranking for vaccination.
