U.S. travel executive order requires quarantine of international flight passengers

The U.S. government issued an executive order on Jan. 21 that all passengers on international flights will be required to quarantine themselves after entering the country starting Jan. 26.

Biden issued an executive order on Jan. 21, ordering all passengers arriving on international flights to be quarantined and suspending all “unnecessary” travel between the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Biden’s executive order announced that beginning Jan. 26, all overseas travelers arriving in the United States on international flights must follow CDC guidelines, including the amount of Time they are required to quarantine themselves upon arrival in the United States. The executive order does not detail how this requirement will be enforced, but requires the director of Homeland Security to “expeditiously” develop a program for quarantining visitors.

The executive order also requires that all people traveling to the United States be tested for the Chinese Communist virus before departing, and that the test results be negative.

Anyone traveling to the United States by air will be required to be tested before boarding and quarantined upon entry into the United States,” Biden said at a news conference.

The executive order also requires the U.S. to negotiate “public health agreements at ports of entry” with Canada and Mexico, among other countries, and the CDC’s requirements must be considered in the discussions. The U.S. government will suspend all non-essential travel from Canada and Mexico into the United States beginning Feb. 21.

The executive order requires all federal agencies to take immediate steps to ensure that all travelers wear masks at airports, on commercial flights, trains, passenger ships and ferries, with exemptions available only on a case-by-case basis.

The CDC currently requires all persons entering the U.S. to self-quarantine for at least seven days, while those visitors who have not been tested for the CCP virus are advised to self-quarantine at Home for 10 days after entering the U.S.

U.S. Transportation Secretary nominee Pete Buttigieg agreed, saying, “We will ensure that the president’s executive order is implemented to protect workers, passengers and commuters on all types of transportation facilities.”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump had announced before he left office on Jan. 18 that he was lifting the quarantine on visitors entering the United States from countries and territories such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, Ireland and continental Europe, but the Biden Administration announced on the same day that it was reimposing the quarantine on visitors from those countries, with the two rules taking effect almost simultaneously.
