Biden will be sworn in on January 20, and now his cabinet members have largely taken shape, with a number of former government dignitaries once again activated. Secretary of State Blinken, Treasury Secretary Yellen, Director of National Intelligence Haynes and others are expected to form the core of the Biden administration.
The following is a list of the members of the Biden administration cabinet.
Vice President: Former Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA), who will be sworn in on January 20.
Secretary of State: Biden’s former foreign affairs adviser, former Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken, whose wife was also appointed by Biden to the White House as White House Cabinet Secretary.
Secretary of the Treasury: Former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.
Executive Management and Budget Director: Neera Tanden, a veteran U.S. political consultant, former government official and president of the left-wing Center for American Progress. Tanden has worked on several Democratic presidential campaigns, including those of Bill Clinton in 1992 and Barack Obama in 2008.
Director of National Intelligence: Avril Haines, former deputy director of the CIA and deputy national security adviser during the Obama years.
Secretary of Defense: African-American, four-star Army General Lloyd Austin. Austin served in the U.S. Central Command, in charge of U.S. forces stationed in the Middle East.
Secretary of National Security: Alejandro Mayorkas, former Deputy Secretary of National Security and a Cuban-American.
health Secretary: California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, if approved, would be the first Latino health secretary. 19, Biden announced the nominee for assistant health secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Health Director Rachel Levine, as the first openly transgender top federal official.
Secretary of Agriculture: Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack (R).
Secretary of Energy: Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm (D).
Secretary of Transportation: Pete Buttigieg, former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, an American political figure who is openly gay.
Secretary of the Interior: New Mexico Congressman Deb Haaland (D), who, if approved by the Senate, would become the first Native American cabinet member.
Secretary of Commerce: Gina Raimondo (R), Governor of Rhode Island.
Secretary of Labor: Boston Mayor Marty Walsh (R).
Secretary of Education: Miguel Cardona, Connecticut-based U.S. educator and first Latino nominee for Secretary of Education.
Attorney General: Judge Merrick Garland of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington.
Biden Administration Secretary of State Blinken and Treasury Secretary nominee Yellen and five other officials attended a Senate certification hearing on the 19th, with the exception of Vice Presidential nominee Harris, who also needs to be approved by the Senate. On the 19th, Executive Management and Budget Director candidate Tanden was questioned by Senate Republican members due to his left-wing philosophy.
