The Chinese Communist Party virus (Wuhan virus and New Crown virus) is still spreading after it attacked Beijing again in December last year. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, wore a mask throughout his indoor and outdoor visits to Beijing and Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province recently to inspect preparations for the Winter Olympics. This is in stark contrast to his mostly unmasked visit since May this year, highlighting the seriousness of the epidemic in Beijing.

On Jan. 18, Xi visited the Capital Gymnasium, National Alpine Ski Center and National Snowmobile and Bobsleigh Center in Beijing to inspect the preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games.

On Jan. 19, Xi visited the National Ski Jumping Center and National Biathlon Center in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province.

According to video footage released by CCTV, Xi Jinping wore a mask throughout his visits to Beijing and Zhangjiakou, whether indoors or outdoors, with Communist Party officials or with the public, and all those present wore masks as well.

According to foreign media, Xi Jinping rarely wore a mask during his visits to the provinces in the past six months. But as the epidemic in mainland China has become increasingly serious, the Communist Party leader has also raised his guard. Xi Jinping “wore his mask tightly” when he visited the preparatory work for the Winter Olympics.

When Xi visited Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, in March 2020, he also wore a mask tightly around his face, according to the Epoch Times. But by May 2020, during the Communist Party’s two sessions, all attendees wore masks, except for Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang and other senior officials of the Communist Party’s Seventh Standing Committee and members of the Communist Party’s Politburo, who did not wear them.

And when the CCP meets internally at the top level, generally, the Seventh Standing Committee of the CCP does not wear masks, but all members of the CCP Politburo wear masks.

In October 2020, Xi Jinping visited Guangdong, Chaozhou and Shantou, and did not wear masks when he spoke on the street, and even the accompanying officials and field staff did not wear masks.

Xi’s visit to Beijing and Zhangjiakou, on the other hand, was tightly covered with masks, which is seen as highlighting the seriousness of the epidemic in mainland China.

Since December last year, Beijing’s Shunyi district has been exposed to a succession of clusters of infections, and the epidemic has continued to spread, with the district then declaring a “state of war”. As of Dec. 31, there were five medium-risk areas in Beijing.

According to the outbreak situation notified by Beijing, between 0000 and 2400 on January 17, there were 2 new confirmed local cases and 1 new confirmed imported case in Beijing.

Between 00:00 and 24:00 on January 18, there was one new confirmed local case and one asymptomatic case in Beijing.

However, there are doubts that the official figures are far lower than the actual number of infections.
