The U.N. Charter provides for the suspension of voting rights when a member state’s arrears reach or exceed the amount due for the previous two years. 18, the U.N. Secretary General Guterres said 10 member states, including Iran, have lost their voting rights in the General Assembly because of unpaid contributions.

Antonio Guterres sent a letter to the President of the General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, a Turkish national, stating that the other six Member States whose voting rights have been suspended are Niger (Niger), Libya, Central African Republic, Congo, South Sudan and Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe Simbabwe), Somalia, Union of Germain, Sao Tome and Principe and 10 other Member States.

The letter clearly lists the amounts that each of these seven Member States must pay to regain their voting rights, but does not list the total amount owed by each. For example, Iran must pay $16,251,298 and Somalia must pay $1,443,640 in order to regain its right to vote.
