The communist virus (Wuhan pneumonia) pandemic is currently gaining momentum as it looks to continue unabated. Rochelle Walensky, the next director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said Sunday (Jan. 17) that more than 100,000 people in the United States will die from the infection in about a month from now until mid-February.
“By mid-February, we expect 500,000 people to die in this country.” Wallensky said in an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday about the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States, a pneumonia disease caused by a Chinese Communist virus.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, more than 4,000 people in the United States have died each day from the disease in recent times. As of Jan. 18, the number of deaths nationwide was 397,600, and the CDC count was slightly lower at 394,495.
Wolenski is President-elect Joe Biden’s pick to be the new U.S. CDC director.
“This does not include the tens of thousands of people who are still carrying the uncertainty syndrome after recovery. And we have not yet seen the consequences of the holiday trips, the holiday parties and the high hospitalization rates and the deaths that have occurred since then. So I think we have a few more weeks of darkness to go through.” She added.
The CCP virus can cause serious illnesses primarily in the elderly and in people with serious underlying health conditions. Most people who contract the disease recover, but a small percentage of patients die.
Ron Klain, Biden’s new chief of staff, also said Sunday that he expects the U.S. death toll to reach 500,000 by February.
“People who are infected with the virus today will start getting sick next month, and the death toll will increase at the end of February, and even in March. So it’s going to take a while to turn that around.” He said.
“A virus is a virus. What we can do is take action to control it. That means getting vaccinations moving; it means helping state and local governments safely reopen school doors; giving people the protective gear they need and really ramping up testing. We have a plan in place to do that. That’s what we’re focused on.”
Wolenski and Kline made the remarks via CBS’s “Face the Nation” program and CNN’s “Face the Nation.
