When I first graduated, I was working in an Internet company in Shanghai.

The company was not big, and the salary was not particularly high, plus there were not many bigwigs standing for 996, so no matter HR or leadership, no one clearly said to me to work overtime, to 996.

Later, we implemented the small and big week strategy, that is, we skipped weekends for single and double breaks, and only had a double break every two weeks.

Plus I don’t live close to the office, so I have to walk 10 minutes to the bus stop, squeeze 6 bus stops, and then change to 4 subway stops. Including the walking time, it takes 40 minutes for each trip.

And I live in that place is a large residential area in Pudong, every day people in the neighborhood to squeeze the bus to work, so there are often dozens of people crowding the bus, squeeze others can not get on the situation. The morning peak of the second line crowded, but I was sitting in the bus, people close to people, turn around are difficult, than the second line is also crowded three times.

I had to take a bus that ran every 5 minutes, and if I couldn’t get on the bus, my commute time would increase again.

This means that I have to get up at 7:30 every day and go out to the office at 8 o’clock in case I’m late. Then I get off work at 9:00 p.m. and arrive home at 9:30 p.m. When I get home, I am physically and mentally exhausted and have to lie down for half an hour before I have the energy to do anything else.

In other words, the whole day, really belongs to me, only the daily midnight 10:00 to 7:30 a.m. of the nine and a half hours.

Fortunately, I am a person with a lot of energy and do not need much sleep, so I can do something for myself during this time, for people who need enough sleep to work like this, it is the same as giving everything to the company.

To be honest, people are really adaptable, and although I felt uncomfortable at first, I was surprised to get used to it because my colleagues were doing it at that time.

Wake up very early every day to go to work, noon and the company colleagues together to eat a stir-fry across the street, the company will give everyone a taste in the evening to eat the senior box lunch, overtime in the evening process is not so painful, we are also talking and laughing.

Such a life, if you say completely unacceptable it, in fact, also exaggerated, so I do not want to write it how bitter.

But too much of this life, you will gradually find that you have no other hobbies in addition to work; in addition to colleagues, no other friends. And because there is no time to exercise plus overeating, you will gain weight and physical fitness will get worse.

In addition to work, you have no life of your own, but in fact there are many beautiful and less costly things in this world. Movies, literature, art, sports, and meeting new people are all things that can make people happy and have nothing to do with you since.

That’s what hurts me the most about working at 996.

Because a company like this wants work to be your whole life, and wants the company to be your home – but that’s impossible, and when you get old and can’t do it anymore, the company won’t treat you like its family.

So after thinking about this point, I resigned resolutely.
