Yeh Liu’s call to revoke the Chinese nationality of Hong Kong people who are naturalized in foreign countries was slapped in the face by Lam Cheng. She said that after the abolition of Chinese nationality, immigrant Hong Kong people still have the right to return to work and settle in Hong Kong at any time – as if Hong Kong people have to ask her whether they have nationality or not, but who should she ask about her life, death, honor and disgrace?
According to her, the only practical effect of the abolition of Chinese nationality is a piece of paper on the right to vote. How much is an ordinary citizen’s vote worth in Hong Kong nowadays? In the District Council, Legislative Council and the Chief Executive Election Committee voting mechanism, the Chinese Communist Party has long been up and down, Hong Kong people’s poor little democratic rights, has been close to zero.
What Yeh and Liu do not know is that there is a fundamental difference between this wave of immigration and the one in 1997. In 1997, although Hong Kong people are also afraid of the Communist Party, but at that time, the Chinese Communist Party’s reform and opening up was still “boiling and boiling”, and the false mask of “Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong” was still in place, and most Hong Kong people still had illusions. This time, the National Security Law has overridden, the big arrests come once every three or two days, even yellow masks are forbidden in normal courts, the government is clamping down on culture and education day by day, and information control is like a tightening spell that is getting more and more painful, the ghost of the Communist Party is already hovering over the heads of Hong Kong people.
The Chinese Communist Party has long since disowned the Sino-British Joint Declaration, and the Basic Law has been dismembered into pieces. This is not the worry of 1997, but a cruel reality.
The less happiness, the more pain, the farther heaven is, the closer hell is, when will we not leave now?
Nothing is worth the price we pay than freedom, where there is freedom, where is my country. If China is such a China, if Chinese people are such people, then lose it, the sky will not fall.
Those who do not have the conditions to leave have to endure, and those who have the conditions to leave, of course, go first. If you ask them whether they want Chinese nationality or a passport to leave China, what do you think they will choose?
Before the Kuomintang retreated to Taiwan, they reserved a special opportunity for Chen Yin-kean and Qian Zhongshu to persuade them to leave the mainland, but the two great scholars refused. In the following decades, each faced the pain, and could not leave, it is a thought of heaven and a thought of hell.
