Congressman McCaul Renews Call for Transparent, Thorough and Impartial Investigation into Origins of New Coronavirus

On January 17th, Michael McCaul, the senior Republican member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and Chairman of the China Task Force, renewed his call for a transparent, thorough and impartial investigation into the origins of the New Coronavirus.

On January 14, the world recorded its two millionth New Coronavirus-related death. One year ago today, on January 14, 2020, the World health Organization (WHO) tweeted, “Preliminary investigations conducted by Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus (2019 nCoV) identified in Wuhan. ” They did so without any independent analysis and relied solely on talking points provided to them by the Chinese Communist Party. China is a country with a notorious history of lying to the world about deadly outbreaks. The result has been a marked slowdown in the response to the outbreak from countries around the world that do not understand that the World Health Organization prioritized appeasing the CCP over reporting the facts.

Since last March, Michael McCaul, the senior Republican member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and chairman of the China Task Force, has been calling for an impartial and transparent investigation into the origins of the virus, but the Chinese Communist Party continues to thwart most efforts to investigate. In an effort to find results, McCaul led his own investigation into the origins of the outbreak, and he released a final report in September outlining how the Chinese Communist Party’s cover-up and WHO’s attempts to appease it turned what could have been a localized outbreak into a global pandemic.

“As we reach the grim milestone of 2 million deaths related to the new coronavirus, the Chinese Communist Party unfortunately continues to block efforts to determine the origin of this deadly disease. Just last month, a team of international investigators from the World Health Organization initially approved by the Chinese Communist Party was denied entry at the last minute. Beijing relented only after the WHO took the rare step of publicly criticizing them. If we are to stop future epidemics like this one, which have claimed millions of lives, the CCP must be completely transparent and allow an impartial and thorough outside investigation into the origins of the new coronavirus. If they refuse, the World Health Organization must publicly and forcefully condemn their actions. If neither side does so, it will only result in further loss of life.”
