Since his inauguration in 2017, President Donald Trump has gradually ended the U.S. appeasement policy toward China over the past decades, not only exposing the true nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and awakening the public to the threat of the CCP, but also actively countering the CCP’s evil practices in the areas of human rights, trade, diplomacy, cultural exchanges, and religious freedom. The results of the Trump administration’s diplomatic efforts to confront the Chinese Communist Party.
For 50 years, the U.S. has succumbed to China (the Chinese Communist Party). Under the Trump administration, (the U.S. government) no longer does so.
“The Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese people are different.”
Pompeo spoke of the Trump administration ending decades of appeasement and misguided engagement policies with the Chinese Communist Party by previous U.S. administrations. “We can no longer ignore the political and ideological differences between the United States and the People’s Republic of China (referring to the Chinese Communist government) between freedom and tyranny,” he said.
“The Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese people are different. We support the Chinese people’s desire to rid themselves of the Communist dictatorship. I made that clear in my speech at the Nixon Library.” He said.
Pompeo said, “The Chinese Communist Party lies and makes empty promises. We must recognize this pattern, and to change (the CCP’s) bad behavior, we must set consequences (for it to suffer). Appeasement and dialogue for dialogue’s sake are ineffective.”
The secretary of state cited the Chinese Communist Party’s suppression of autonomy and freedom in Hong Kong as an example. He said, “The Chinese Communist Party has torn up its promises to the people of Hong Kong. We make those who deny freedom to noble people pay the price. When the Chinese Communist Party shamefully violated the Sino-British Joint Declaration, a UN-registered treaty promising a high degree of autonomy to the people of Hong Kong, the Trump administration revoked Hong Kong’s special trade status and sanctioned the Chinese Communist Party and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region officials.”
On U.S.-China trade, Pompeo spoke of the Trump administration imposing tariffs on Chinese imports only when a reciprocal deal could not be obtained.
Covering Up the Epidemic CCP Lies, People Die
Currently, the CCP virus pandemic persists, to which Pompeo tweeted, “(To) Wuhan virus & (Wuhan virus) lab: we still don’t know what’s going on.”
He said that the CCP covered it up (the epidemic), that the CCP made doctors who know the truth disappear, that the CCP still refuses to let the world see what it did, and that the CCP lied about the source of the virus.
He went on to say that the CCP closed off travel within China, but allowed Chinese to travel out of the country, causing suffering to the world. And the United States invented the vaccine for the world, and everyone can see the contrast.
“When the Chinese Communist Party covered up and hid the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan, the Trump administration led the world in publicly calling for transparency and condemning (the Chinese Communist Party) for this cover-up.” he wrote, with the hashtag #ChinaCommunistLiedPeopleDied.
Speaking about the CCP’s bullying in the South China Sea, Pompeo said General Secretary Xi Jinping said during a meeting with then-President Barack Obama in 2015 that the CCP “has no intention of militarizing the Spratly Islands.” But that promise was subsequently broken by the Chinese Communist Party.
Countering Communist infiltration and espionage in the United States
Pompeo wrote, “This is not the Cold War. This is different. The Chinese [Communist Party of China] threat is already within our borders.”
He went on to talk about Chinese Communist spying and various forms of infiltration within the United States and the Trump administration’s separate countermeasures against various Chinese Communist vices.
Pompeo wrote: “The Chinese Communist Party spying at the diplomatic facility in Houston, Texas (the Chinese Consulate in Texas)? We shut it down. It will not be allowed to happen (under our watch).”
“I am the first U.S. government official to expose Chinese (CCP) influence operations in detail in a public forum. I chose to speak at the National Governors Association because (exposing the CCP’s influence operations) is not a partisan issue, it is a threat to all Americans. State legislators in every state in the U.S. are also targets (for the Chinese Communist Party).
“Ending CCP unification operations in the name of cultural exchange, etc., combats CCP influence operations within the United States. Other countries are now following suit.
“Protecting U.S. universities from the vicious actions of the Chinese Communist Party is critical to academic freedom. We have exposed Confucius Institutes for what they really are – centers of the CCP’s disinformation and propaganda arm. They are being rapidly shut down across the United States.
“Before and After Chart of Confucius Institutes in the U.S.: From over 100 Confucius Institutes in the U.S. at the beginning of the Trump administration, the number of Confucius Institutes in the U.S. was below 60 by the end of the Trump administration.
“We have called on university boards to disclose and divest malicious Chinese companies (of donations). We are now requiring think tanks to disclose foreign funding sources before engaging in State Department program activities; and we are also reviewing visa applicants to the U.S. for ties to the Chinese Communist military.
“Even Xi Jinping himself admits that CCP propaganda media personnel are not independent journalists. Then we shouldn’t pretend they are either. It’s important to #checkthefacts.”
“Make a promise, keep a promise: We labeled 15 CCP media entities and agencies as CCP state missions to make sure Americans know they are reaching out to the propaganda arm of the CCP. #FakeNews.”
Confronting the CCP: The Trump Administration “Makes Promises and Keeps Them”
Secretary Pompeo also summarized the various actions the Trump administration has taken to make and keep promises on the topic of confronting the Chinese Communist Party.
He tweeted, “Promises made, promises kept: we reversed decades of inaction [by the U.S. government] against harmful Chinese Communist behavior. We placed complicit Chinese companies on the Commerce Department’s Entity List, froze visas for human rights abusers, and imposed Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act sanctions on top CCP officials for abuses in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.”
“Make a promise and keep it: before this administration, the Chinese Communist Party and its agents stole valuable American technology with impunity. Now, we prosecute Chinese Communist spies and thieves and prevent them from obtaining visas to steal the technology of our great cutting-edge innovators.” He said.
“For the first time ever, the U.S. government has publicly declared the Communist Party’s claims in the South China Sea ‘completely illegitimate’ and sanctioned more than 20 Chinese companies for aiding the Communist Party’s maritime claiming practices.” Pompeo wrote.
Pompeo also spoke of his support for religious freedom for China’s ethnic minorities. He wrote, “We stand with the Tibetan people and support their right to religious freedom and cultural identity. We have imposed unprecedented visa restrictions on officials who prevent reciprocal access to Tibetan areas.
“We have also given courageous Uighur women a platform to tell the world about their missing family members under Chinese Communist rule.
“We have led the way in exposing to the world the horrific abuses (by the CCP in) Xinjiang. Sanctions were imposed on CCP officials, imports of forced labor were stopped, and so on. While the world turned a blind eye, the United States spoke out and took action.”
Finally, Pompeo said, “We in this administration are straightforward in admonishing the American people that the Chinese Communist Party is a Marxist-Leninist party that has clearly demonstrated its hostility to our values and way of life.”
Defending Religious Freedom America’s Founding Principles
“Our founding fathers knew that nations prosper when individuals can exercise their religious freedom. The role of government is to protect that right, not to promote a particular religious ideology. On National Religious Freedom Day, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting this universal right.” He said.
Jan. 16 is National Religious Freedom Day in the United States. In a statement on the State Department website, Pompeo said that more than 230 years ago today, Thomas Jefferson signed the Virginia Religious Freedom Act, legislation that inspired belief in the First Amendment to the Constitution and Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on freedom of worship.
The statement said the United States reaffirms its commitment to promoting religious freedom around the world, including ensuring that every person has the right to exercise freedom of thought, conscience and religion. “On National Religious Freedom Day, we reaffirm our determination to defend religious freedom as America’s highest priority freedom and a universal human right around the world.” He said.
Pompeo is the first U.S. secretary of state to speak out courageously on the persecution of Falun Gong. He issued a formal statement condemning the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 2020, which was also posted on the websites of the State Department and U.S. embassies and consulates in China. He was also concerned about the issue of live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese Communist Party.
On December 10 of the same year, the State Department also announced sanctions against Huang Yuanxiong, a police officer from the Wucun Police Station of the Xiamen Public Security Bureau, for the serious human rights violations and persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
