Nancy Pelosi’s views on the use of the Army National Guard in Washington, D.C., to deal with protesters took a 180-degree turn in six months, according to a video released by U.S. media on Jan. 17.
In the first part of a video posted by U.S. media outlet Gateway Pundit, Pelosi is shown praising the National Guard on Jan. 13, 2021.
Pelosi told about 20 or so soldiers, “I hope the fact that you’re here will be a deterrent to those who come to undermine our Constitution.”
Pelosi continued, “We want the message to be clear, because your patriotism, the Capitol, our democracy, our Constitution is safe.”
In the second part of the video, taken from Pelosi’s weekly press conference on June 4, 2020, Pelosi discusses a letter she sent to President Trump condemning his deployment of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., during the violent and deadly George Floyd riots.
Pelosi read, “I wrote a letter to the president expressing concern about the increased militarization and lack of clarity that could create chaos.”
Pelosi went on to ask President Trump, “For what kind of authorization (to send) these National Guard troops from other states (to Washington)?”
Pelosi ended the video by saying, “It’s certainly a sad day.”
