The Chinese Communist Party has stopped buying Australian coal in political retaliation, resulting in a shortage of domestic coal supply, which is suspected to be related to the cold winter power cuts in many provinces and cities. According to Australian media reports, the Chinese Communist Party has stepped up coal imports to make up for the shortfall, but most of the coal purchased is still imported from Australia by other countries.
Taiwan United News reported on 17, the Chinese Communist Party to make up for the shortage of supply, turning to other countries to import coal, but the origin of most imported coal is still the “arch enemy” Australia.
The newspaper quoted “Australia News Network” news that local coal industry “Whitehaven Coal” said that China is now importing coal from Russia, Indonesia, South Africa, India, and Pakistan to make up for the gap caused by the suspension of the purchase of Australian coal. But in fact, most of these countries are importing coal from Australia and reselling it to China.
The report said that China is still indirectly importing Australian coal, indicating that the boycott has limited effect.
The report did not mention whether the price of Australian coal changed after the resale. However, China’s domestic coal prices rose significantly after the boycott of Australian coal.
Australian coal is one of China’s main sources of coal for power generation because of its low price and high energy efficiency. After the Chinese Communist Party stopped purchasing Australian coal, several departments ordered to increase the purchase of coal for power generation from other countries. Since the winter, many Chinese provinces and cities have imposed “power restrictions” or experienced unexplained power outages, which are often speculated to be related to the suspension of the purchase of Australian coal.
The Chinese Communist Party has stopped buying Australian agricultural products and coal one after another because the Australian authorities insisted on tracing the source of the Chinese Communist virus, which annoyed Beijing.
