Recently, the verdict of a body swapping case that took place in 2017 in Guangdong Province was made public on the website of Chinese Magistrates, and the circumstances of the case disclosed were horrifying. A mentally challenged man was lured drunk and nailed into a coffin, which was then used to take the place of another deceased person to be cremated at a crematorium.
The corpse-swapping case took place in Lufeng, Shanwei, Guangdong Province, according to the verdict of the case made public on Magistrate.com.
In February 2017, the perpetrator, Huang Mouqing, contacted a middleman, Wen Mouyao, to help his deceased brother Huang Moujian evade the local policy that bodies must be cremated, to discuss having another deceased person cremated in place of his brother’s body. Wen Mouyao then contacted Huang Moubin and asked him to help find the source of the body.
On March 1 of the same year, Huang Moubin drove through Lufeng City and saw Lin, who suffered from congenital mental retardation, picking up garbage alone on the roadside, and coaxed Lin into the car. Then, he went to the kiosk to buy six bottles of glass bottles of red rice wine to Lin Mou drink, Lin Mou to unconsciousness, and then Lin Mou drive to Lu Feng Jieshi Town Xia Bo Village, the foot of the mountain, into their own prepared coffin, with four nails to seal the coffin.

On September 8, 2020, the Shanwei Intermediate Court sentenced Huang Moubin to death for intentional homicide, suspended for two years and deprived of political rights for life.
The person involved in the case, Huang Mouqing, was once prosecuted for the crime of intentional destruction of a corpse, but was finally not prosecuted because of the minor circumstances of his crime and surrendered after the crime. Another person involved in the case, Wen Mouyao, was arrested on suspicion of intentional destruction of a corpse and died of acute kidney failure after suffering a sudden illness while in custody.
