House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-WY), daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney Sr. voted for a motion to impeach Trump on Jan. 13, and several Republican House members called for a vote on whether to remove Cheney Jr. as chairman of the Republican Conference, Breitbart News reported on Jan. 14, saying House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said he would not participate in the move to remove Cheney Jr.
McCarthy’s spokesman confirmed the news to the House when several House conservatives called for Cheney Jr. to step down. On Wednesday, Cheney was one of 10 House Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching Trump, and the final motion to impeach Trump passed by a vote of 232 to 197. McCarthy voted against impeaching Trump.
After Cheney voted for Trump’s impeachment, Republican Representatives Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs and Marjorie Taylor Greene called on Cheney to immediately resign as conference chairman. Jordan told reporters Wednesday, “We should vote again, and the Republican Conference should vote on this.”
