MeWe Global Downloads Surge, Recording One Million New Users in 72 Hours

With President Donald Trump blocked from mainstream social media and Parler taken down from Apple’s App Store and Google Play, downloads of alternative social media mobile apps have skyrocketed, including MeWe.

TechCrunch reported on Jan. 12 that MeWe, which was launched in May 2012, has accumulated more than 16 million downloads worldwide, according to Apptopia. But since Jan. 6, MeWe has been downloaded nearly 200,000 times worldwide, with the majority of new downloads coming from the U.S. at nearly 143,000.

The majority of new downloads have come from the U.S., with nearly 143,000, and users have “switched” to MeWe after Parler was taken off the market. From January 9 to 10 alone, MeWe has recorded more than 110,200 new downloads in the United States. The company told the TechCrunch blog that 1 million new users have registered in the past 72 hours, and more than 20,000 new users are being added every hour.
