The U.S. Congress held a special joint session Wednesday afternoon (6) to certify the results of the Electoral College vote in the presidential election. Vice President Pence, who presided over the meeting, issued a statement before the start of the meeting, indicating that he did not have the right to unilaterally reject the results: “The Constitution does not allow me to unilaterally decide which electoral votes should be counted and which should not be counted.”
Pence’s move directly vetoed U.S. President Donald Trump‘s request for several days, and 6 to participate in the pro-Trump demonstrations in Washington, requiring Congress not to certify the election of Biden.
