U.S. Commerce Secretary Ross later said in a statement, “Pursuant to the authority designated to the Secretary of Commerce by the President, I have directed my department to begin implementing the directives in the Executive Order, including investigating prohibited transactions related to certain China-related software applications.”
In a statement, Ross said, “I support President Trump‘s commitment to protecting the privacy and security of Americans from the threat posed by the Communist Party of China, and the Commerce Department will use the authority granted in the Executive Order to continue our mission to ensure the security of the nation, its economy and its people.”
President Trump banned Chinese apps such as Alipay and WeChat Pay by executive order.
The eight Chinese apps are reportedly Alipay, WeChat Pay, qq Wallet, Tencent QQ, Scan All King, Cheese Express, VMate, and WPS Office.
