The US state of Georgia will hold a crucial senate runoff election on Tuesday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced on Monday that they were aware of “specific threats” related to the election.
In a statement Monday, the GBI told SBA-TV and other media outlets, “The GBI has been made aware of specific threats in connection with the upcoming elections on Tuesday. Our agencies are working with federal, state and local partners to ensure a safe election and that all voters have access to polling stations.”
The GBI did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.
The FBI’s Atlanta office said it was also “aware of the threat,” according to a statement sent to Fox News.
In a statement to Fox, an FBI spokesman added: “We take all threats seriously and are in communication with our local, state and federal partners. As always, we ask everyone to be aware of what is around them and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.”
In a Facebook post, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said it learned of a threatening email sent to several Cherokee County employees on Saturday afternoon involving threats to polling places in the Jan. 5 election.
The Facebook post added, “The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the FBI were notified and an investigation into the emails began. It turned out that employees in several counties in Joe had received the same email. The source of the E-mail has not been identified. There are 40 polling places in Cherokee County.”
The post added that arrangements had been made for “law enforcement personnel” to stand by before threatening emails were reported.
In Tuesday’s state senate runoff, Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler will face Off against Democratic candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, respectively. The election will determine which party will control the Bundesrat for the next four years.
Both President Donald Trump and Joe Biden traveled to New York on Monday to campaign for their party’s candidates. Vice President Mike Pence also held a rally at a church in the city of Milner to campaign for two Republican senators. “I promise you, we will be lucky in Congress this Wednesday,” he told supporters, referring to his electoral college challenge on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. We will hear the objections, we will hear the testimony.”
Trump wrote on Twitter that he will speak at a rally Monday night and will talk about the fraud in Joe State. “You will see the real numbers in my speech tonight,” he said.
