At the beginning of the Wuhan pneumonia (COVID-19, New Crown Pneumonia) outbreak, China built so-called “square cabin hospitals” with great speed to absorb the huge number of confirmed patients. Now, at the beginning of 2021, the Communist Party’s official media has revealed that 43 hospitals will be built in the “Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region”. This move makes outsiders wonder if China is facing a second outbreak of Wuhan pneumonia.
According to the China News Service, Xu Hongzhi, director of the Inner Mongolia health Commission, recently led a team to hold a press conference on the epidemic in Hohhot, taking stock of the country’s medical functions and resources. Xu Hongzhi said that there are 121 designated hospitals and 87 back-up hospitals in Inner Mongolia, with 207 fever clinics set up in general hospitals at the second level and above. Each league and city can choose sports stadiums and exhibition halls according to local conditions to “build 43 square cabin hospitals”. Xu Hongzhi stressed that the construction of square cabin hospitals is to prepare for “in case of an epidemic”, leaving ambiguity to the outside world.
