Former Hong Kong Democratic Party lawmaker Xu Zhifeng, in a Facebook post Saturday, said HSBC canceled his family’s credit cards, urging the regulator to investigate or consider other international follow-up actions.
According to the Sing Tao Daily, Xu Zhifeng pointed out in the post that HSBC cancelled the credit cards held by him and his family unilaterally and without notice, because of the bank’s “commercial decision”. He criticized HSBC for political considerations and allegedly embezzling the surplus, urging the bank to give a public account of the incident.
He said in the post, according to the government’s public statement, the police never asked HSBC to cancel my credit card account and that of my family. The decision to cancel the credit card is HSBC’s own political considerations, political decisions, aimed at assisting the regime to combat opposition voices, the practice has absolutely no legal basis.
Xu Zhifeng was involved in nine charges in Hong Kong, earlier under the name of official foreign visits to Denmark, abandoned bail and absconded to London, England, declared exile.
He said that he and his family have been HSBC Premier customers for decades, never had a good credit record, past mortgages and repayment of mortgages, etc., are handled through HSBC. Now a “business decision” unrelated to credit, the bank has arbitrarily canceled the customer’s credit card, embezzlement of assets, accused of its behavior is like a robber.
“For me and my family, the cancellation of credit cards is not a big deal, but its experience is important to Hong Kong, is to reflect the business sector under the national security law to the regime’s dependence and obedience, can completely override the law and policy, and the regulator can only be politically correct, can do nothing.”
